The Routes Travel Info Portal offers an information service but cannot guarantee the correctness of the info as we are dependent on service providers for the data.
Great care is taken with routes and maps, but there is not a complete database available for these in South Africa. There will thus be gaps in the data, and maps may not be accurate.
Distances may also not be accurate. There is no a standard for determining the center of a town or place. A distance may vary from one source to the next as different locations may be taken as source of reference. Historically different locations served as the center of a town. These include the railway station, post office, town hall, or even main church in the town.
Metropolitan areas stretch over many kilometers. When departing from Johannesburg, for example, it depends on whether one starts off from a location in its eastern or western area. There may be a difference of more than 20Km to the destination, depending on this starting point, although both departing locations may be within the Johannesburg Metropolitan area.
