Aberdeen was established in 1855 on the settler farm Brakkefontein
(which means Dogs Fountain) by the Dutch Reformed
Church.
On the banks of the Kraai River there is the Fonteinbos Nature Reserve. The white stinkwood (Celtis africana) is indignous to the Kamdebo Mountains.
