Name

Bathurst is named after Earl Henry Bathurst, the British Colonial Secretary at the time of the 1820 British Settlers.

Bathurst is the pineapple capital of South Africa. They were firts planted in the area in 1865 by Charles Purdon, a farmer inthe area.A water-drawn wool mill was built in 1821 by Samuel Bradshaw. It is now a national monument.
