Name

Jeffreys Bay is named after the senior partner JA Jeffrey who owned a trading store around which the town evolved

Jeffreys Bay is known for its surfing, especially at Super Tubes Point. Other good waves are at Kitchen Windows, Magnatubes, Tubes and The Point. Surfing is best during winter when westerly winds bring along huge waves. The Noorskloof Nature Reserve (29Ha) is named after the indigenous Noorsboom (Euphorbia triangularus) and offers walking and birdwatching. Sport: golf, bowls, tennis

History


In 1849 a store was opened by JA Jeffrey and Glendinning on a beach in the huge St Francis Bay. Cargo was delivered by boat on the shore in front of the shop. The town developed as a resort for holiday makers. It became a municipality in 1969.
