History

In 1837 a mission was established in the area by the Berlin Missionary Society under leadership of Pastor Jacob Ludwig Dohne. The mission became known as Dohnes Post.Around 1857 men from the disbanded British German Legion settled here and founded the town, named after their commander. Stutterheim became a municipality in 1879.
Old Lock Up is the old jail.
