Boksburg is named after Eduard Bok, an Attroney-General of the old Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek

The East Rand Shopping Mall offers all the chain shops, restaurants and movies typical of such complexes. Wild Waters, a pleasure park with water fun such as water slides and 8 other such activities. The Fun Factory offers roller skating and 10-pin bowling. Bokkie Park offers children farm experiences, such as milking cows. Le Grange Bird Park and Boksburg Lake have picnic spots. Historical buildings are: Old Post Office (1898), Law Court (1890), the Sir Herbert Baker designed St Michaels and All Angels Anglican Church.

History

In 1886 gold was found by a prospector, PJ Killian, on the farm Leeuwpoort. Its owner, Carl Ziervogel, opened a gold mine here. The first stands were offered here in 1887. In 1888 coal was also discovered. In 1903 Boksburg became a municipality.
