History

In 1873 Ulundi was founded as capital by the Zulu King Cetshwayo. The last battle of the Anglo-Zulu War tookplace here in 1879.
Ondini Historial Reserve is on the spot of Cetshwayo's capital. Kwanodwengu is the site of the royal home and grave of King Mpande. There is a Kwazulu Cultural Museum.
