The town is small enough to stroll from one building to the next. Alanglade is a period house museum. The Miners House offers a glimpse of how miners lived. There is also a Shop Museum.

History
In 1873 a prospector Alec Paterson, nicknamed Wheelbarrow, found gold in on of the streams running through the area. A mining town soon developed. By 1875 there were 21 stores, 18 canteens and 3 bakeries. A reef was found in the 1890s from which gold was produced until 1972. The main street of town became a museum in 1974, one of the few examples in the world of a town reflecting the style of those built during the gold rushes of the 1800s.
