The N4 is the route between Botswana and Mocambique route, passing through Zeerust - Rustenburg - Pretoria - Witbank - Nelspruit - Komatipoort

NOTE:
The N4 shares surface with the N1 at Pretoria, where there are Toll Ramps (see the N1 section, particularly the Pumulani toll plaza).

There are no good alternative routes to bypass the Toll Roads on the N4. Alternative routes follow such long detours you will only want to follow them if you're on a leisurely trip and do not mind the long detour. If such is your case and you are travelling between Gauteng and Komatipoort, you may consider passing Carolina on the R38. If you travel northeastward, you may want to follow the R555 from Middelburg.
