Name

Bredasdorp is named after Michiel van Breda, who was a leading member of the community in the 1800s and the first mayor of Cape Town.

Shipwreck Museum devoted to shipwrecks. The Heuningberg Nature Reserve hosts 270 endemic species of flowers (i.e. flowers only found locally). Bredasdorp hosts a bi-annual wild flower show in August-September.

History

Bredasdorp was established on the farm Langefontein, which was sold to the Dutch Reformed Church in 1837 to build a church. It became a municipality in 1917.
