History

In 1689 Izaak Schryver camped next to a river where he encountered so many doves, he called the river Duivenhok (Dovecote). In 1725 Andries Gous began a farm with the name Doornboom. In 1855 this farm was bought bythe Dutch Reformed Church and the town was laid out.
