A thermal spring is located here with 32°C water. It contains
suplhur chloride. The Swartland Wine Cellar may be visited. Kalbaskraal Nature
Reserve offers walking trails. An annual food and wine festival is held in
June.

History
Records show people settling around the thermal spring from 1744
onwards. A settlement grew and was known by the name Swartland. The general
area got the name Zwarte Land, or Swartland, from Jan van Riebeeck. The name
Malmesbury was given in 1829. The town became a municipality in 1896.
