The Montagu spring is a hot, radioactive spring with 43°C water. At Baden, 13Km from Montagu is another hot spring. There are many Cape-Ducth and Georgian style houses of which 23 have been declared national monuments.

Montagu was founded in 1851 on the farm Uitvlucht. It became a municipality in 1895.
